Christian Lemmerz
Christian Lemmerz (was born in 1959 in Karlsruhe, Germany) is a German/Danish- or rather an international - sculptor of quite a different caliber in contemporary art. This philosophic and intensely in-depth thinking artist hovers about the death especially and what is ahead. Christian Lemmerz has created and is creating works which through their penetrating, fantastic performances in various materials - both well-known as marble, bronze and aluminium, and the more peculiar as lard, soap, stearin, Jesmonite and insulating material - pull at one’s heartstrings and into the brain of the spectator either you look at or own a work done by Christian Lemmerz.
I made these paintings and drawings last year. In january 2020, back when the epidemy yet was to be heard from China, i began postponing - and later cancelling my travels to Italy. Then, i started making the first Corona-pictures. I painted daily when Denmark locked down in March. I took over one side of my dining table at home and a sort of spontanious diary arose. In my examination and reading of my diary, I've destroyed or redone many of my works. Some of which that stood the test, can now be seen in Horsens.
